the 28½in. blued and gilt etched blade with cartouche inscribed PRESENTED BY THE CREW OF H.M.SLOOP PERUVIAN / TO J.K. WHITE ESQUr. THEIR COMMANDER MAY 21st 1815 / IN TESTIMONY OF THE HIGH ESTEEM HIS / HUMANE & ZEALOUS CONDUCT ENTITLES HIM TO., silver stirrup hilt with partial London hallmarks for 1815 with langets cast with trophies of arms, the guard formed of a winged Victory, her wreath grasped by a lion, wire-bound ivory grip, contained in shagreen-covered scabbard with silver mounts with embossed medallions, dolphin frog loops and maker's cartouche signed READ / Army & Navy / Sword Cutler / Portsmouth -- 35in. (89cm.)



James Kearney White (1782-1828) and thence by descent.



Hilt has lost all gilt while the bade obverse lost 75% and reverse 25% of blue and gilt, some areas of corrosion; wire on grip becoming loose, ivory chipped under lion's jaw making guard loose.
