Property of a gentleman - The London Dumbartonshire Association, an unmarked gold (tests 15ct - printout available) medal awarded to John Dewar Cormack for services as Chairman of Council 1907-1908, 37mm diameter, on blue ribbon with 9ct gold clasp, approximately 31.0 grams total, in fitted leather box; together with another gold medal relating to Dumbarton (the centre panel tests 8ct, the laurel surround tests 11ct and acid tests as gold - printouts available), awarded to the same recipient, dated 1898, approximately 16.9 grams, in fitted box (2). Footnote - Professor John Dewar Cormack C.B.E. C.M.G. (1870-1935) was educated at Glasgow University and subsequently lectured in engineering at Yorkshire College, Leeds, Glasgow University and University College, London. He held various posts in aeronautical departments during the Great War. He was awarded the decoration of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour by the French Government, and was also honorary Brigadier General and honorary Group Captain in the R.A.F..
