£280
A George III sampler dated October 21 1819, worked by Agnes Sharp with the legend 'When this you see remember me, when I am dead and gone', worked in polychrome threads on a linen ground, with a couple flanking an urn, below a central castellated house, a deer, sheep, crown, birds, peacocks, Adam and Eve beneath an apple tree and numerous further trees and plants, 32.5cm x 32.5cm, (at fault) later framed and glazed
The sampler is framed under glass and has not been removed for inspection. The piece shows losses to the fabric ground in several areas, including to the top right corner, to the tree on the left hand side below the legend, and several smaller losses. The colours are generally distinct, but show a degree of age related fading, most noticeable in the paler details (for example the bodies of Adam and Eve). The fabric ground shows age related darkening throughout.
