A FIRST WORLD WAR PAIR TO AN OFFICER GASSED ON THE SOMME.
A Great War pair comprising War and Victory Medals named to 2. Lieut W.H.A. Court. William Harold Arthur Court was born in Norwich in September 1876, he became a civil engineer in Leicester enlisting on the 3rd of December 1959 at the age of 39. He was number 37908 in the Leicestershire Regiment where he served in the reserve as a Garrison Officer. He applied for a commission on the 5th Feb 1917 which was granted on 6th March 1917. He travelled to France on 4th April 1917 where he served with 338 road construction company R.E. as part of the 14th Division. He was gassed on the Somme in December 1917 at Boisleux north of Bapaume and invalided home on the 9th February 1918 relinquishing his commission on grounds of ill health on the 6th of June 1919.
