1866 (Dec 8) Envelope with "Ladys Circular" printed on the front, containing a printed circular for "The Edinburgh Mourning Warehouse, Extensive Arrival of Goods Adapted for the Season at Gowans & Goodlet's", the envelope franked by Edinburgh & Leith perf 11½ ¼d green (S.G. CD6, horizontal perfs misplaced, stamp repaired) cancelled "R.B & Co", endorsed at right "Closed against inspection & delivered at my house 24 Warriston Crescent this day at 10.30am W.C Smellie, 8 Dec / 66", the enclosed circular initialled "W.C.S". This circular was used as part of the Post Office evidence in the 1867-69 court cases that led to the suppression of the Circular Delivery Companies.
