A good quality brass barrelled flintlock musketoon, by Parkes, c 1770, 31” overall, 3 stage barrel 15” with bell mouth muzzle and octagonal breech with simple foliate engraving and bearing Tower private proofs; signed stepped lock with foliate engraving and safety bolt; walnut fullstock with silver wire inlaid shell and scrolls around the breech tang, engraved brass mounts including flat side plate, trigger guard with foliate finial, and oval escutcheon. Basically GC (no mainspring, the cock a crude replacement, the butt has been fractured and repaired) Possibly by John Parkes of Birmingham 1768-88 £500-800.
