Distinguished Conduct Medal GVI (7884495 Cpl G Black R.Tank.R), GVI India General Service Medal with North West Frontier 1936-37 clasp (7884495 Pte G Black R.Tank.C), 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Burma Star, War Medal. ID Tag. Named medal box of issue, named Casualty medal slip. Gavin Black was Killed In Action with the 7th Bn Royal Tank Regt 3rd January 1941. Lived Stonehouse, Lanarkshire, and is on the Alamein Memorial. DCM awarded for "skill and gallantry in action near Sidi Barrani on 9th December 1940" with the 7th Royal Tanks. Lot includes much original material including DCM Certificate / Citation hand signed by General Wavell. Soldiers Service & Pay Book, Casualty notification letter. Letter sent to his parents ref his death dated 12/1/1941 written and signed by Major J R Holden, noting that Black was killed on the preliminary attack on Bardia. A letter written by Black to his mother 19/12/1940. A large cabinet photo of Black in uniform. A copy of the original DCM Citation reads "This NCO was Tank
Commander during the action on 9 Dec 40 at Nibeiwa and Tummar West, fighting his tank with gallantry and coolness engaging enemy guns at close range in spit of many direct hits one of which damaged his radiator and put one engine out of action. In spite of this he brought his tank back to the rallying point. His coolness and devotion to duty were remarkable". Vended by decent. A superb original lot. (Qty)
