A FIRST WORLD WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUE NAMED TO MARTIN THOMAS FLEMING.
Signaller J/14984 Martin Fleming served aboard HMS Hampshire, born on the 27th April 1896 he died on the 5th of June 1916 at the age of 20 when HMS Hampshire was travelling from Scapa Flow to Russian, Lord Kitchener, the Secretary of State for War was on board as part of a diplomatic mission to the Russian front. At 20.45 in the evening she hit a mine and sank, there were only 12 survivors. He is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, his parents were Elizabeth and Lawrence Fleming of 36 Overstone Road, Hammersmith. The plaque pierced with a chain for suspension.
