Gregor, length 89.5", 227cm, width 45.5", 115.5cm

*This piano, together with another Broadwood grand piano numbered 2143, was supplied to the Polish violinist Felix Yaniewicz (1762-1848) who was also a composer and ran a music warehouse from 1803

BROADWOOD GRAND

Grand piano by John Broadwood and sons, London, 1822, number 8967.

Details:

The mahogany case with ebony stringing, the fascia board and cheeks veneered with rosewood and brass stringing.

The six-octave keyboard, CC to c4, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals.

English grand action, double bridge, two pedals supported on a lyre, the left controlling the keyboard shift, the right divided to control the treble and bass dampers.

Four turned baluster legs, inscribed on a boxwood plaque:

John Broadwood & Sons makers to His Majesty & the Princesses, Great Pulteney Street, Golden Square, London, bearing the serial number 8967 on the music desk, pedal lyre and fallboard and inside the keywell, the latter also marked M. Gregor.

Length 89.5", 227cm, width 45.5", 115.5cm.

This piano, together with another Broadwood grand piano numbered 2143, was supplied to the Polish violinist Felix Yaniewicz (1762-1848) who was also a composer and ran a music warehouse from 1803.

Restored by Lucy Coad in 2000 and sold with her report on the restoration.

Condition:

Tuned to A415hz.

Two missing iron strings.

Hitch plank and wrest plank both look well connected with no obvious signs of structural failure.

Some mildew from previous storage that can easily wipe off.

Observations noted in the condition report are based on obvious signs to the naked eye from an experienced restorer.
