An early 19c eight day longcase clock, the 12in square brass dial signed Jn Bell Hexham and having foliage spandrels and Roman numerals with arabic outer minute numerals. The four pillar movement has anchor escapement and rack striking and is contained in mahogany case with swan neck pediments with central finial to the hood. Fluted columns flank the dial and the trunk has fluted quarter columns flanking the rectangular trunk door which has edge banding in contrasting mahogany. The plain base has a raised central panel and cut out plinth with bracket feet. The clock stands 83in tall overall.
The movement seems complete. The dial may be a replacement and the name cartouche looks modern. there is some tarnishing of the silvering. The case has some splitting to the veneer below the left swan neck and around the door frame. the front base panel has a vertical crack.
