Local Interest - an early-mid 19th century apothecary's mortar and pestle, brass everted mortar with spreading circular base, 9.5cm high, the stoneware and turned mahogany pestle 25cm long Provenance: MS label inscribed Originally owned by Joseph Woodhead, Chemist at Anston, Yorkshire WR [West Riding?] in 1841 Census. Chemist at Lower Pavement, Chesterfield in 1857 directory. Passed down through the family since Mr Woodhead's death in 1862; direct family descent.
Some signs of wear commensurate with age and use, including askew mortar rim in places and rubbed losses to pestle handle.
