£150
A Victorian mechanical propelling pencil by Sampson Mordan, the yellow metal pencil with reeded exterior case with a bloodstone set to finial, hinged handle and loop to terminal, max. length 13.5cm, min length 5.8cm, weight 17.7gms
The overall condition of this pencil is good. This pencil has a telescopic opening mechanism, and while it is stiff, it opens and contracts fully and correctly. we are unable to test the lead as the nib is blocked. the nib is estimated 1.5mm diameter. The pencil is in good order - the outer most case is in good order, however there does appear to be a crack in one of the ridges. When extended, there is moderate scratching and some denting to the inner levels. Hardstone set to top is in good order. The link attached to the loop handle is heavy worn and thinned. This is yellow metal, and does appear to be gold, however there are NO hallmarks and we cannot say for certain what material this is. No other signs of damage or repair.
