Pair of Officer’s Field Boots with Trees by Peal & Co. London.

Good brown leather pair with laced insteps and toe-caps complete their wooden trees bearing plaque with maker’s name and owner “Maj.R.N. O’Connor”. Detachable handles on trees absent otherwise VGC.

The are bespoke made boots, with no indication of size, being sold as collectors items. The soles measure 11 inches from toe to heel

General Sir Richard Nugent O’Connor, KT, GCB, DSO and Bar, MC was one of the five prominent “Desert Generals” and famously captured by a German patrol. After escaping two years later, he went on to be a senior commander in the Normandy Campaign and eventually Adjutant General. Originally in the Cameronians, he was mentioned in despatches 13 times. Peal & Co were founded before 1791.
