A LATE 18TH CENTURY CUBAN MAHOGANY LONGCASE CLOCK by Hampson of Bolton c.1780, the hood having a swan neck pediment with three bladed finials above a verre-eglomise panel to the frieze and reeded pilasters, the 30.5cm brass face having a silvered dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, seconds dial and calendar dial to the centre, signed and engraved with a basket of flowers and leaf scrolls, 8-day movement striking on a bell, the case with concave and cushion moulding above a long door flanked by reeded pilasters, the panel with bookmatched veneers, canted corners and on plinth base, 226cm high.
The clock is illustrated in Grandfather Clocks and their Cases by Brian Loomes pg165 Plate 197 as an exceptional example of a Lancashire Clock.
Movement: Appears complete and in good condition. Signs of recent restoration, i.e. new gut lines, seat board hook etc. Hands slightly out of line.
Dial: Complete, appears original, restored.
Case: Some of the castellated moulding missing on the side below the hood.
The seat board appears original. An old partial crack to the base of the side of the plinth. A crack in the glass pannel in the hood (see image 2/6 and 4/6)
We cannot set this clock up for a test.
