A fine quality 19th century 2-day marine chronometer by Lilley & Son of London, circa 1895, the 10cm silvered dial signed inscribed and numbered 1080, solid gold spade hands with blued secondaries, Mercer movement numbered 5540, records show that this movement was sold by Thomas Mercer of St Albans to Lilley & Son in 1895, this clock was put into service on the Cable ship CS Mackay-Bennett, which was one of the ships used to recover bodies from the Titanic, the original brass-edged mahogany case has inlaid brass stringing and recessed carrying handles measuring 18cm x 19cm, in original teak outer carrying case
