A large architectural pair of Chinese carved red sandstone Luohan guardian monk temple figures. The statues are believed to be likely carved during the early/mid 20th century in the style of 14/15th century Ming dynasty examples originating from the Sichuan Province. Both carved from a single block of stone, modelled in a seated lotus and Lalit asana position respectively with caricature-like facial features and votive nieces to the reverse. 98 cm height, width 54 cm width, 41 cm depth. (2 items). Provenance: Acquired by our vendor approximately 20-25 years ago from the Chinese antiquities dealership 'Dragon Culture', 184 and 231 Hollywood Road, Hong Kong, having had them shipped back to their Kent Country House where they have sat since.
Condition report: Good condition with some age related patination and natural weathering present.
