** CHESTERFIELD (DERBYSHIRE) - COVER EX PAROLE P.O.W. TO FRANCE ENDORSED "P:P:L:"; Very fine 10 Nov. 1809 EL (unsealed; as per censor regulations?) from a POW giving his address as "Mr. Vigier, S-Lieut. du 62nd Regt. Inft. Francaise, Prisonnier de Guerre A Chesterfield, Derbyshire en Angleterre" to his father Meze (via Nerac) routed via London being charged "10" (decimes; rate from the Cartel port of Morlaix) on delivery. The meaning of the red manuscript "PPL" annotation at top right of the address is still not clear but may well indicate "Postage Paid to/via London" (although that postage was not paid to the Chesterfield P.O. in this case). The letter is mainly about remitting funds to S-Lieut. Vigier via a Paris bank. [See MFPWE, p.131.] Cross Reference: FRANCE, DERBYSHIRE, MILITARY - P.O.W. MAIL
