A Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Qalamdan Pen Box, Made for the Islamic Market, 19th Century.
Of elongated oval form with a hinged lid, this vibrant qalamdan pen box is finely decorated in cloisonné enamel over a gilt copper body. The turquoise ground is densely filled with colourful scrolling floral motifs in red, white, blue, yellow, and green. The top is adorned with cartouches bearing Arabic inscriptions "The Merciful" in the central lozenge and "Allah" in circular medallions.
