A BRASS BARRELLED FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS WITH SPRING BAYONET, RETAILED BY JOHN BOBBIT, BUNGAY, SUFFOLK, CIRCA 1800. Signed to the lock ‘Bobbit’, the barrel flared at the muzzle, spring loaded folding bayonet, brass mounts, engraved trigger guard, horn tipped wooden ramrod with iron worm, top of barrel stamped with London proof marks and the owner's name ‘M. B. KINGSBURY', full stock with vacant brass escutcheon, length 77cm

John Bobbit is recorded as an ironmonger in Bungay, Suffolk and retailed this blunderbuss to the original owner, Matthew Brettenham, who set up a solicitor’s practice in Bungay in 1790. The practice continues today under the name ‘Spark & Kingsley’.
