A JAMES VIII OF SCOTLAND SILVER GUINEA (1716) 1828 STRIKE. A James VIII silver guinea, laureate and draped bust r. within Jacobus VIII Dei Gratia. Reverse with crowned cruciform shields and sceptres 1716, 'Rex Sco An Fra et Hib'. Plan rim.
Norbert Roettiers prepared dies for a Scottish coinage in 1716, no contemporary examples of these cons are known to exist, this is from a limited number that were struck from the original dies in 1828 by Matthew Young, after which the dies were defaced.
A very nice example of a rare and most interesting coin.
