Cornish Lifeboat disaster. A rare late 19th century Penryn broadsheet. 'Melancholy Occurrence [of the loss of] the Crew of the Preventive Boat Stationed at Bude....having on board Five Persons belonging to the Service, named Andrews, Key, Bale, Pattieson, and Worsdale, the latter is one of Penryn... Off the Cliffs at St. Ginnis..the Boat upset...None of the bodies have been recovered,' Stephens, Printer, Penryn, A small 4to sheet, 210mm x 162mm, describing in effect one of the earliest Cornish Lifeboat disasters, in operation even before the actual service was set up. Hugley rare, if not unique, and not mentioned in any of the usual maritime sources usually searched. Boase & Courtney also fail to even notice Stephens as a Penryn printer, as also 'Collectanea Cornubiensia (1890), in a fine condition with a small hole to the upper middle.
