A FINE LATE 18TH/19TH CENTURY MARINE OFFICERS FIGHTING SABRE.
With a 77cm curved single edged pointed blade with broad fuller, partially blued and decorated with a standing figure of Britannia, GR cypher and pre 1801 Royal Coat of Arms, marked to the back of the blade 'Osborns Warranted'. With a stirrup hilt with Lion's head pommel, wire wound grip and langets with fouled anchor surrounded by laurel leaves. The elaborate scabbard with three brass mounts finely engraved with military trophies, serpents and foliage, with twin ring suspension. 92cm overall.
The laurel wreath enclosing a fouled anchor was the badge of the Royal Marines prior to 1827 when the globe was added.
