Sport - Cricket, World War II and Movie History - a leather cricket ball on turned mahogany presentation display pedestal, the base inscribed E Walsh, 10 Wickets for 34 Runs, May 17 1939, 24cm high The Hollywood Cricket Club was formed in 1932 by C Aubrey Smith and is a member of the South California Cricket Association. During the 1930s matches became a social event, being attended by stars such as Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland. The team of actors played many visting teams, including Don Bradman's touring Australian side and a photograph exists of the cricket team from HMS Orion with Boris Karloff, Herbert Marshall and Aubrey Smith at Hollywood c.1941.
