'Lalage', a Parian ware figure by John Bell for Minton, mid 19th century circa 1865, modelled as a classical maiden seated on a rock with a flower garland around her wrist, a lizard at her feet, titled to the base, partial impressed Minton mark to base, impressed 'John Bell' verso, 40.5cm high (minor faults)
NOTE: See Atterbury (P), THE PARIAN PHENOMENON, plate 145.
The piece shows a firing crack to the neck and another to the torso. There is a loss to the top of the flower garland, and the odd small nibble to the petals. There is a build up of dirt in the crevices, particularly of the floral garland.
