Temminck & Huet - Rare engraving of Black-billed Kingfisher 1820.
This original hand-colored engraving is from Coenrad Jacob Temminck's Nouveau Recueil De Planches Coloriees d'Oiseaux. The work was published between 1820 and 1839 in Paris, Strasbourg, and Amsterdam.
The engravings were completed by Nicolas Huet & Jean Gabriel Pretre.
Temminck was a Dutch aristocrat and zoologist. He published the work presented while he was the first director of the National Natural History Museum in Leiden. It illustrated a large number of birds for the first time.
Size: approx 8in x 11in (20.5cm x 28cm) .
