A DECORATIVE METAL STERN CASTING BELIEVED TO BE FROM THE CAPTAIN'S GIG OF H.M.S. HOOD RECOVERED FROM PORTLAND WATER, CIRCA 1891


formed with a trophy of arms and flags, with banner reading 'HOOD', finished later in polychrome, mounted on a wooden display board with brass provenance label -- 9 x 30in. (23 x 76cm.)



A 'Royal Sovereign' Class battleship, Hood was decommissioned in 1911 and sunk as a block ship in Portland Harbour, 4th November 1914.
