A WWII 'Rupert' paradummy: of green hessian sandbag material with cord ties to head, wrist and feet for filling, parachute pack to back (parachute absent) with canvas strap to interior stamped 'SW45', 110cm long. Note - The paradummy was a WWII military deception device designed to imitate an airborne assault and lure ground troops into repositioning or diverting fire. Their official military designation was 'Device Camouflage No.15' but were nicknamed 'Rupert' by the British Troops during Operation Titanic as part of Operation Bodyguard which was designed to cover the Normandy landings. This suit was purchased by the vendor in the 1980s from P G Wing, Saffron Walden. Military Surplus who had obtained a crate of dummies found at RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire which housed Air Dispatch Squadrons during WWII
