An 18th Century longcase clock by John Watts, Canterbury, the eight-day movement striking a bell, the 12" square brass dial with arched pediment, and a chased niello border of stilised leaves and repeated framing the applied niello-silvered sun roundel to the centre of arch, with applied silvered chapter ring with Roman numeral hours and Arabic numeral minutes, subsidiary silvered seconds dial and calendar aperture, applied gilt-brass pierced foliate spandrels with classical masks and sea creatures framing the sun, hand-cut blued steel hands, the walnut veneered case with dome top, cavetto mouldinga and three-quarter pilasters with brass capitals, the trunk with arched door, herringbone border and applied mouldings to edge and circular glazed lenticle, the pedestal base with Cyma reversa moulding and herringbone bands, on plinth base. 218.5cm high (pendulum tin suspension-spring requires replacement)
