High-Calvinist Anglican preacher James John West (1805 - 1872) was appointed Rector of Winchelsea in 1831 and ministered in the Parish Church of Hurstpierpoint. His passing on 7th August 1872 was reported in the Strict Baptist publication The Earthen Vessel.
