Star Lot: A stunning original antique watercolour by the famous British landscapist Cyril Ward. It features a sunny field with haystacks backed by low rolling hills. An interesting study of the late afternoon sun and an excellently rendered piece. Its colours remain vibrant despite its age. Ward has a long auction history reaching prices in the thousands.
Painter born at Oakmoor, Staffordshire. Nothing is known of his artistic training but Cyril Ward belonged to the important school of English garden painters popular during the decades before World War I. He exhibited at and was a member of the RCamA and he also showed at the FAS, Leeds Art Gallery and at the RHA, Dublin.
