1842 Jellalabad (Mural Crown) Medal contemporary engraved naming to Pt John Astris XIII P.A.L.I., replacement silver straight bar suspension, light contact marks, very fine. Appears his name was John Astier, with 5 copied pages of service record, he was born in Mullinger, West Neath, enlisted in 13th Foot 1/3/1825, served with the Army of the Indus during the Afghan Campaign in 1838, 39, 40, 41 and 42, was present at the storming of Ghuznee in July 1839, and the Forts of Scotun Dunagh and Joolgah, presnt at sevreal engagements forcing the passes from Cabul to Jellalabad in 1841 and in defence of Jellalabad Fortress 1841 and 42, present in the general action at Jellalabad 7/4/42 and the recapture of Cabul 15/9/42, promoted Sgt 17/8/45, discharged 14/8/46. His 1839 Ghuznee Medal was sold by DNW 21/5/20. (See photo) (R)
