QV Head die proof, state 1 within a vertical oval of horizontal lines, a differing defaced head die struck lightly above, in black on card, vertical folds clear of the printed proofs, otherwise fine and scarce, 114x106mm. This head was used for the strip of six small head 1d essays submitted for the 1879 Tender. Photo on Page 12.
