A Late XIX Century Italian Grand Tour Canted Marble Desk Top Inkwell, of fluted circular form, inset with seven lava cameos in gilt metal mounts, the inside lid with a painted scene of Vesuvius erupting and enclosing an inkwell, pomander and pen holders, 12cm diameter.
Inside rim of lid with some small chips one cameo with crack, nibbles and 2 small chips to base fluting, base with surface scratching, glass inkwell with wear and bent to edge, no chips. One inkwell is misshapen to brass edge.
