Star Lot: Shirley Stopford-Taylor (b.1935- d.2017). A wonderful and vibrant original Shirley Stopford-Taylor chalk pastel on coloured paper painting / drawing. Features a well achieved portrait of 'Peter' rendered in autumnal shades of orange against the contrasting background. Signed bottom right and dated Dec. 1973. Housed in a gilt frame behind glass.

Shirley Stopford-Taylor was born in Ripon and attended Harrogate Art School in the early 1950s. She worked as an art teacher in Yeadon and Whitehaven before returning to Harrogate where she began working as a pastel portrait artist. Her career flourished as a portrait artist in the late 70s and early 1980s and she received numerous commissions. She also had many exhibitions including Yorkshire and London galleries.
