A FIRST AND SECOND WORLD WAR GROUP OF FIVE WITH MINIATURES TO THE ROYAL NAVY WITH A FIRST HAND ACCOUNT OF JUTLAND. A group of five comprising 1914-15 Star named to L. 1648 E.G.Fox OS 1 R.N. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named, Second World War Defence Medal, unnamed as issued and George V Long Service and Good Conduct Medal named to L. 1648 E.G. Fox OS 1 H.M.S. Victory. Mounted as worn with accompanying miniatures, the War Medal with clasps for North Sea 1914, 1915, 1916, Jutland 31 May '16, North Sea 1917 and 1918. Ernest George Fox was born on the 24th November 1890 at Norwich. He worked as Officer's Steward working with senior Officer's who later achieved flag rank serving aboard H.M.S Marlborough during the battle of Jutland being transferred mid-battle to H.M.S Marlborough on the 1st June. Marlborough was hit by a German Torpedo and George Fox recalled 'There was a terrific explosion, it simply lifted the ship like a ball and bounced her up and down like a rubber ball would be in water. .. We felt the ship gradually going further over and over and over. Of course everybody's faces turned pale, we wondered how far the ship was going over, whether she was going over altogether and we were going to be drowned in this little compartment. Attached to the Royal Australian Navy until September 1921 before being officially attached to the retinue of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales during his eight month tour of India, Japan and the Far East between 1921-22. With letters and other ephemera.
Good condition as worn, ribbons slightly frayed.
