An antique Suzani, probably Bukhara, Uzbekistan, 19th century, embroidered with various flowers within a lattice of foliage, within a conforming border of large oval flowerhead medallions, the outer border with a meandering floral vine and narrow conforming meander guards, alterations, lined, 85 x 53½in. (216 x 136cm.). * Provenance: Property of Violet Hudson, Danesfield House, near Marlow, Buckinghamshire and thence by descent to the current owner Alterations - composite construction. Later lining and stitched tape edging and hanging loops to one end. Colours remain strong and the embroidery is in good condition overall. Some areas show heavier dirt discolouration to surface of the light backing and there are a few small holes and one or two darned holes. Minor losses and some restitching to dark brown vines to one corner. Overall in good condition overall.
