Terms and Conditions of Sale.
All charges are subject to VAT at the current rate with specific exceptions.
1) Commission is charged at the rate of 20% on the hammer price of each Lot with a
minimum charge of £3.50 plus VAT per Lot whether sold or not. Lots selling for
£17.50 or less, or unsold will attract a charge of £3.50 plus VAT
2) Items presented or collected for sale will be entered in the first available sale, but may be
held over, at the Auctioneers discretion, until space or a suitable sale is available.
3) All descriptions are at the Auctioneers discretion.
4) All items held for sale or storage are insured and a charge of 1% plus VAT will be
levied on each lot.
5) Payments are available for collection 13 days after a sale. Postal payments will be sent
out , 2nd class, 18 days after a sale.
6) We will not produce a cheque if the amount owed to a vendor is less than £30.00. The
vendor is expected to collect the amount in cash from the office.
7) Payment to Vendors is not made until the Auctioneers receive payment in full, in the event
of a default the goods will be reoffered for sale.
8) Lots failing to attract a bid will be deemed unsaleable and will be disposed of at the
Auctioneers discretion and charged accordingly.
9) Items not in compliance with current legislation or deemed unsaleable will be disposed of
and the costs incurred will be payable by the Vendor.
10) The Auctioneers act as agent for the vendor and reserve the right to bid on their behalf on
Lots offered subject to a reserve.
11) Each Vendor will supply their name, address, telephone number, emails address and VAT
status and sign the Auctioneers entry form.
12) Mains gas appliances are not sold by the Auctioneers.
13) All electrical appliances will be tested by the Auctioneers electrician, in compliance
with current regulations, and a charge of £2.00 plus VAT per item will be levied.
14) The Auctioneers are registered with North Yorkshire County Council and all goods offered
must be in compliance with current legislation as required by the Trading Standards
Office.
15) The auctioneers will not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury occasioned or
sustained by persons on the premises.
16) Where lots are offered without reserve the Auctioneers are legally obliged to sell these
even if they only receive the minimum bid of £10.00 therefore the Auctioneer may bid on
such lots on behalf of Thompson’s Auctioneers.
17) If any lots are withdrawn, there will be a £5 plus VAT per lot charge.
18) There is 10% auctioneers discretion on any reserve unless marked as fixed.

Buyers Terms and Conditions of Purchase
All charges are subject to VAT at the current rate with specific exceptions.

The Purchaser to be the highest bidder who will pay the hammer price plus a premium of 20% plus VAT.
In the case of a dispute the Lot may be re-offered at the discretion of the Auctioneer who shall be the sole arbitrator.
Each purchaser shall register with the Auctioneers or Easy Live Auction giving their Name, Address and Telephone Number.
All purchases must be paid for, in full, and no Lots may be removed until such payments have cleared.
Payments are accepted in Cash, Credit Card, Debit Card or BACS (online banking– details available from the office)
We no longer accept cheques as a form of payment
We do not accept payment over the telephone.
The Auctioneers act as agents for the Vendor and reserve the right to bid on their behalf on Lots offered subject to reserve.
The Auctioneers will not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury occasioned to or sustained by persons on the premises.
All descriptions and advice are given as opinions only and are at the Auctioneers discretion. Whilst the Auctioneers list any defects that they have found it is the Buyers responsibility to examine Lots and determine the condition at the time of sale as no refunds will be made after the fall of the hammer (Subject to current legislation)
Lots marked in the catalogue with * are being sold for a VAT registered vendor and VAT at the appropriate rate will be added to the hammer price, as well as the buyers premium.
Commission bids are accepted by the Auctioneers who undertake to purchase the on the bidders behalf at the best advantage. I authorise Thompsons's Auctioneers to bid on my behalf up to and one bid over my amount Lots purchased by absent buyers will be consigned at the Auctioneers earliest convenience at packing and postage charges to be agreed.
Book purchases are not subject to VAT.
All electrical appliances are tested by the Auctioneers electrician, in compliance with current regulations, for safety, wiring, fuses and plugs. But this does not guarantee them in working order.
Where mechanical or electrical goods are marked “S/R” (Spares or Repairs) or “A/F” (As found) the Auctioneers have deemed them unserviceable and are subject to no refund.
Where mechanical and electrical goods are unmarked or marked as “W/O” (working order) the Auctioneers will refund the purchase price in full upon the return of the goods (in original condition) if found not to perform the task they were intended for, within seven days of purchase.
Artist's Resale Rights
If you buy a work of art by a living artist or an artist who has died in the last 70 years, which costs more than the UK sterling equivalent of €1,000, you will have to pay a royalty relating to the Artists Resale Right Regulations 2006. The royalties are administered by the Design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS), or the Artist’s Collecting Society (ACS), and no handling costs are retained by Thompsons Auctioneers. Items that may qualify for this royalty are marked in the catalogue with a tick next to the lot number.The current royalty charge for qualifying items over €1,000 are: Up to €50,000 – 4%
€50,000.01 to €200,000 – 3%
€200,000.01 to €350,000 – 1%
€350,000.01 to €500,000 – 0.5%
Exceeding €500,000 – 0.25%Royalty charges are calculated using the Euro to UK sterling exchange rate on the day of the sale.
The Auctioneers are registered with North Yorkshire County Council and all goods are offered in compliance with current legislation as required by the Trading Standards Office.
We offer a full refund on any electrical items if they are faulty and returned within 7 days of purchase, unless offered as A/F (as found) or S/R (spares or repairs)
There will be a £5 per lot, per day charge levied for lots not collected within the given times.

ONLINE BIDDING
We offer online bidding service via easyliveauction.com for bidders who cannot attend the sale.

Please note that any lots purchased via easyliveauction.com live auction service will be subject to an additional 3% commission charge + VAT at the rate imposed on the hammer price or no commission for the internet bidding if the ‘Flat Fee’ has been chosen at registration.

ALL LOTS MUST BE PAID FOR AND COLLECTED DURING THE FOLLOWING TIMES : FRIDAY 1-5PM, SATURDAY 9-4PM OR MONDAY 9-4PM FOLLOWING EACH AUCTION.
We understand that you may need help getting your purchases home. That's why we are happy to pack and post smaller items via Royal Mail / Parcel Force and can deliver larger items locally.
We do ask that you request any postage or deliveries by 9am on Saturday following the auction. Please enquire for postage/delivery costs.
Thompsons Auctioneers are not specialist packers and accept no liability for loss or damage to items packed and posted at customer’s request.
If you need bulky items (furniture, heavier boxes etc) transporting over longer distances then you are welcome to arrange your own courier to collect on your behalf and we can liaise with them when needed.
