Cassius Clay and the Beatles, signed, photograph dated 1964.
The meeting between The Beatles and Cassius Clay took place in February 1964 during the band’s first visit to America. At the time, Clay was on the verge of claiming the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship title—a victory that would cement his legacy in sports history.
Soon after, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali, becoming one of the most celebrated athletes of all time.
The photograph being offered for auction was collected by the owner’s late uncle, who worked as a music promoter in America during the 1960s. With its unique historical significance and the connection between two cultural powerhouses, this signed image is expected to draw keen interest from collectors, music enthusiasts, and boxing fans alike.
This sale is part of Charterhouse’s upcoming Film and Entertainment Memorabilia auction, which will showcase an array of highly collectable items from the world of music and film.
“Icons of the mid to late 20th century, the photo has great appeal to music and boxing fans,” commented John Snape of Charterhouse Auctioneers & Valuers.
Also in the catalogue, The Beatles, Help!, British quad film poster, folded.
