This is no illusion or hoax!
Selected items from famous illusionist Derren Brown’s residence are going up for sale next week. The auction includes 68 lots and will be held by Wimbledon Auctions at 10:30am on Monday, December 12th.
Another high-priced item is a Patex Philippe Gondolo 5109 18ct rose gold watch, which Derren wore in ‘Russian Roulette’, which first aired in 2003, and many of his other early television shows. It is estimated to fetch £5,000 - £8,000.
You will also find a bespoke made circular love seat and a brass bird cage that once belonged to Derren’s parrot, Rasputin. All these items are expected to fetch somewhere between £3,000 to £5,000.
Derren is known to be a keen taxidermy enthusiast, and the auction will include several items from his private taxidermy collection.
You could also get your hands on a taxidermy monkey butler stand circa 1920 with tray or a two-headed Fresian calf (bos taurus) estimated at £1200 - £1600.
Derren Brown’s television career began in 2000 with ‘Mind Control’ in which the now famous star showed the audience various tricks, considered ‘magic’ or ‘psychic’, through the use of psychology, suggestion, showmanship, and misdirection.
He has since gone on to appear many times on various TV shows. He is well-known for having successfully predicted the National Lottery, playing Russian Roulette live, leading the nation in a séance, sticking viewers at home to their sofas, and hypnotising a man to assassinate Steven Fry.
In addition to his TV career, Derren has written several best-selling books and toured with eight sell-out stage shows. His one-person stage shows have gained a record of five Olivier Award nominations for Best Entertainment, which he went on to win on two occasions.
