Shoes that adorned the feet of the man famous for his silky crooning voice and sensational dance moves are due to go under the hammer with one of our auctioneers, Henry Aldridge & Sons! The iconic blue suede shoes that once belonged to Elvis Presley aren’t just music memorabilia—they’re emblems of musical history. This incredible auction offers a unique opportunity to own a piece of the Elvis legacy.
These well-worn and well-loved cerulean loafers were worn by Elvis during the transformative 1950s as he rose to stardom. Most notably, they were worn during his performance on the Steve Allen Show on July 1, 1956. During this appearance, Elvis serenaded a real hound dog while performing a playful skit. You can watch the performance here and get a peek into Elvis (in a tux!) as he showcased his growing musical prowess and performed his new (at the time) song! Before he sang “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You,” he mentioned wearing the shoes.
In 1958, the night before Elvis joined the army, he gave away various pieces of clothing and gifted these shoes to his dear friend and entourage member, Alan Fortas. One of the items of authenticity and provenance, detailing the history of these incredible shoes is a letter from Alan Fortas himself, ranch foreman at Elvis' Circle G Ranch, which reads in part:
“I also appeared with Elvis in many films as an extra. I was also with Elvis in the concert in the round segment for the famous 1968 NBC 'Comeback' special. The night before Elvis' army induction here in Memphis. Elvis had an all-night party at Graceland. Afterwards, we went to the Rainbow roller rink. When we all got home, Elvis called some of us upstairs and was giving away some of his clothes, he didn't think he would be wearing or wanted when he came back from the army. That night, Elvis gave me these blue suede shoes size 10 1/2. I've owned these all these years.”
The heel of each shoe is stamped 'Nunn-Bush' and inside of each shoe is stamped 10-1/2 stating the shoe size.
The lot is also accompanied by two more documents illustrating their history:
An Elvis Presley Museum letter of authenticity to Daniel Johnson, hand-signed by Jimmy Velvet.
An Elvis Presley Museum certificate of authenticity, hand-signed by Jimmy Velvet, who was Elvis' friend for twenty-two years and the Founder and original President and CEO of the world-famous Elvis Presley Museum all those years ago.
